TymeX - UI/UX Design Intern

COVER.jpg

About the project

At the end of 2023, with limited experience in app design, especially banking apps, I was fortunate to learn and explore many new things as a UI/UX Design intern. During my internship, while the app was being enhanced, I supported the team in various tasks.

Role: UI/UX Design Intern

Timeline: Jan - May 2023

Platform: App (android/iOS)

💪 What I Was Responsible for in This Journey

Unfortunately, I can only share limited details about the project. However, if you have any questions about my experience, feel free to reach out via email.

⚡️ Redrawing the Icons

I was assigned the task of enhancing and redrawing the old pictograms to align with the new version of the Philippine banking app. Throughout the process, I received valuable guidance from Hieu Cao (Visual/UI Designer), from ideation to adding visual emphasis to the icons.

⚡️ Re-organize design system of multiple country

When I was assigned the task, the company's design system was not well-organized, especially the system in South Africa. I received guidance on components and patterns in the Philippine design system, and familiarizing myself with this system helped me better categorize and organize the design system file for the South African system.

⚡️ Collaborating with the Business Analyst to create a QR code flow that meets the requirements.

I received guidance from my leader in creating the QR code flow, starting with understanding requirements from the BA, researching various UI styles in the market, and reusing the design system to create new screens. Additionally, I learned about various flows related to feature states, including error cases, alert modals – which occurs when an action is not possible. I learned a lot throughout this journey, especially about various cases related to banking apps.

⚡️ Supporting the developer team in testing flows.

I was responsible for supporting the testing of several flows in QA version [iOS] Build 1.3.0. I conducted manual testing by comparing the design with the UAT environment, verifying both UI elements (typography, icons, colors, etc.) and feature flow states, including success, error, and other scenarios. The developer team provided support in setting up the UTA device and assisting with logging bugs throughout the testing process.

Learning and Takeaways

✅ Enhanced skills in UI design, iconography, and organizing design systems across different regions, improving consistency and efficiency.

✅ Developed a deeper understanding of requirement analysis, competitive research, and user flow creation, particularly for banking apps.

✅ Gained hands-on experience in manual testing, identifying UI/UX inconsistencies, and logging bugs, ensuring a smoother user experience.

✅ Strengthened collaboration with cross-functional teams, learning to work effectively with BAs, developers, and designers in a structured workflow.
